Brick & Stone Repointing
Preserving Masonry for Generations
Repointing Done
the Right Way
Mortar joints are designed to protect the masonry around them. As mortar deteriorates, cracks and open joints can allow moisture into the wall and accelerate damage to brick and stone.
At Rock of Ages Masonry, we carefully remove deteriorated mortar and replace it with mortar selected to suit the existing masonry. Particular attention is paid to joint depth, mortar composition, colour, texture and finishing so the repair performs properly and blends naturally with the original work.

The Rock of ages experience
Carefully Assessed
Before work begins, we examine the condition of the mortar, brick and stone to determine where repointing is required and identify any underlying masonry damage.
Properly Matched
Mortar is selected and matched for compatibility, colour and texture, with attention to the character and age of the existing masonry.
Carefully Repointed
Old mortar is removed to the appropriate depth and new joints are installed and finished using proper masonry techniques for a clean, durable result.
Protecting Brick & Stone Masonry
Good repointing should do more than improve the appearance of a wall. It helps manage moisture, protects the edges of the masonry units and extends the service life of the entire wall.
Rock of Ages provides repointing for historic homes, commercial buildings, churches, institutional properties, chimneys, foundations and other brick and stone structures.
Whether we’re repairing a small deteriorated section or repointing a larger masonry façade, our objective is the same: preserve as much sound original material as possible while making repairs that are compatible with the building.

Why Mortar Matching Matters
Historic brick and stone were often built using mortars that behave differently from many modern masonry products. The replacement mortar needs to work with the existing masonry—not against it.
Rock of Ages considers the strength, permeability, colour, aggregate and finished joint profile when selecting replacement mortar. The goal is a repair that protects the masonry while respecting the appearance and construction of the original building.
